A Touch of Frost DI Jack Frost series RD Wingfield 0000552145556 Books
The late RD Wingfield had done a brilliant job when he produced his character, Jack Frost.Frost, an Inspector with the Denton Police Dept. in England is pretty much a chain smoking whirling dervish. He has the worst habits imaginable, he's bawdy, has little to no respect for his superiors. He dresses in rumpled clothes ala Colombo. He completely exasperates his stodgy young partner with his natural antics. He'll leave you smiling more than once through the read Yet, the Inspector has heart and capability, and lots of it.
In "Touch Of Frost" he deals with murders, rapes, thefts, and others almost one on top of each other. What seems to many as a bumbling idiot is actually a very crafty, insightful Inspector.
Frost's character jumps off the pages and appears real. The book is a combination of crime and police work peppered with a good deal of tongue in cheek humor.
A very capable author, character and series which will leave you yearning for more.

A Touch of Frost DI Jack Frost series RD Wingfield 0000552145556 Books Reviews
Received the ordered book way before the expected arrival date in perfect condition. It is a book I read many years ago and wasn't sure how a seller could keep such a prize in great condition for so long! But they did and I love it. Thank you!!!!
Though the writing style has a 'sameness' about it as other 'Frost' novels Jack's character always shines through as he has another new 'side-kick' (Webster) to work around as Jack breaks every rule in the book. As usual, jack works through the plethora of plots until the end where (as usual) the reader is left to join up the final dots.
For those who have watched the series, the intricate web of plots will seem familiar. But don't stop reading. There are belly laughs not quite fit for family viewing (but wonderfully hilarious) and the outcomes are surprisingly different. Highly recommended.
This is another of the DI Jack Frost British police investigation mysteries, and my evaluation of it is the same as that of Winter Frost. It's humorous, witty, and complexly plotted with multiple crime investigations going on at the same time. There's enough characterization and office politics to aid the humor and engage the reader, although the plot is quite engaging. The book is long (500+ pages), and difficult to put down.
Det. Inspector Jack Frost from the series written by R. D. Wingfield is a much more interesting character than the TV version portrayed by David Jason. He is more crumpled and crass, more vulgar and inappropriate, but in the same time more compassionate and caring for the unfortunates on the streets of Denton. These are very unusual kind of crime novels. Filled with multiple plots and cases, with policemen overworked and very, very human. Just marvelous series, alas far too short.
This is my third Inspector Frost novel and it is a good one. DI "Jack" Frost is a curmudgeonly detective in the Denton police force and has his hands full investigating a variety of crimes. In each book, Frost usually has several different crimes he has to solve. This time it is a missing teenager, stolen coins, a hit and run murder, and a serial rapist. He has help from either a new detective sargent or detective constable. This character is different in each book it seems. These are not graphic, high action novels but rather a laid back mystery which is intriguing and suspenseful and requires using a little of the gray matter to enjoy. Highly recommended.
DI Jack Frost is assigned to work while most of the station is attending a retirement party. When summoned to a public restroom by a beat cop, Frost finds a murder victim. Of course, Jack never has just one case to solve, and soon a missing teen, a series of burglaries, etc, etc, etc, all claim his time. Jack is as likely to sleep at his desk as to go home at night, and his clothing shows it. Any slight excuse to get rid of him would be enough for Superintendent Mullett, but unfortunately for Mullet, fortunately for Frost, a higher-up is in his corner.
