Storm of the Century An Original Screenplay Stephen King Books
This is the actual script or screen play for the miniseries/movie Storm of the Century. As such this was easy to rate because I saw this on ABC when it originally came out. I love the villain named 'Andre' Linoge (Legion). Some think he is also Randal Flagg from The Stand but I just think they are similar in some ways. If Stephen King created him as a reference to Mark 5:9 it says "Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many."" This would suggest that Linoge is one of many Legion types demons. Legion is not one demon, it is many demons that could include Randal Flagg, Andre Linoge, Pennywise and the three greasers from 'Sometimes they come back', to name a few.Tags : Amazon.com: Storm of the Century: An Original Screenplay (9780671032647): Stephen King: Books,Stephen King,Storm of the Century: An Original Screenplay,Gallery Books,067103264X,Horror - General,Horror plays,Horror plays.,Northeast storms - Maine,Northeast storms;Maine;Drama.,Television plays,Television plays.,Drama,FICTION Horror,FICTION Thrillers Supernatural,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction,Fiction - Horror,FictionScience Fiction - General,Horror & ghost stories,Maine,Modern fiction,Nick Cutter; Ezekiel Boone; Charles Lambert; Ruth Ware; Iain Reid; under the dome; just after sunset; stand by me; everything's eventual; steven king; stephen king; dark tower series; the shining; misery; shawshank redemption; pet sematary; doctor sleep; mr. mercedes; national book; marriage; betrayal; LA book prize; carrie; the stand; bangor; maine; richard bachman; esquire; new yorker; cell; lisey's story; bag of bones; esp; suspense; horror; bram stoker award,Northeast storms,Philosophy,Science Fiction - General,Horror & ghost stories,Modern fiction,Philosophy
Storm of the Century An Original Screenplay Stephen King Books Reviews
My Brother loves it!
This is a good book. I had to grab a copy after checking it out at a library. Very easy read.
"Storm Of The Century" is worthy of joining the King universe. Not used to reading screenplays, I did find the format a bit distracting at times. But the story is quite well done and makes one eager to watch the mini-series. If the film makers can get the characters and special effects down as well as the author intended, we have us a winner! I may die broke, but I am proud to have read, and to say I own, all of this fantastic author's books, etc.
Great book. The fact that it is written in screenplay form does not take away from the enjoyment. For me anyway. It's been year since I have seen the movie but I believe this mirrors it perfectly. Or vice versa since it was written before it became a film.
Most times, the book (in this case a screenplay) is so much better than the ""movie"". In this case, I can't pick one over the other.
Yes, I saw the ""movie"" first. I bought the screenplay to back it up. They both, stand-alone, are outstanding. I have read a crock-pot
full of King's novels, this is, IMHO, one of his best. There are portions of the book / ""movie"" that will scare the bejiminies out of you.
Anything that Stephen King does is a star Seven. This book grabs you right at the beginning and does not let your go until way after you finish. It will keep you thinking about how society really thinks and acts. Great movies. I would read a chapter then watch it on the tube to compare. Almost identical and well done! The characters chosen to play the roles were the best choices. From the first of the film, you are just sitting there trying to take it all in, the killing of an old woman starts it off, and the ending is just...Stephen King!
"I'm a little teapot short and stout, here is my handle here is my spout, when I get all steamed up, then I shout, just tip me over and pour me out. Just an innocent little song?....not in this story.
STORM OF THE CENTURY begins with an unspeakably violent death and the man responsible has not a care in the world.....save one.
"Give me what I want and I'll go".........
The calm and collected Town Constable of Maine's Little Tall Island, Mike Anderson is preparing for the big one with half the town in his store clearing his shelves when news of a brutal murder reaches him....and the evil stranger, well....he's still at the scene....waiting.
Now everyone knows the island has seen no murders since Dolores Claiborne took out her disgusting husband (never proven) years ago, so shock and fear has spread like wildfire.
So......even worse than the approaching STORM with its hurricane force winds and Arctic amounts of snow, the citizens are right to be wary for something else is coming to wreak havoc ......something they've never seen before.
How did I ever miss this one! King hails it as one of his most frightening stories written for screen, and I do agree.....oh what HE wants....and why pick this little town....bc bc bc.... "Island folks know how to keep a secret."
STORM OF THE CENTURY has now moved into my top 10 of 64 KING stories read even though, this time, (for me) the screenplay format did disrupt the overall fear factor....(and I do love screenplays). As for the movie....OMGOSH....Do Not miss it! The sinister Andre Linoge played by Colm Feore is something to behold.
"Born in sin, come on in." hehehe
4 Stars for the screenplay - 5 Stars for this atmospheric creepy-scary horror of a story that kept me glued to the pages!
(The Shining's..."Danny Torrance"...."Dolores Claiborne"....Rose "Madder"....The "Regulators"....Hearts in "Atlantis" all mentioned here....and, of course, probably missed others.)
